ATA TKD
Discipline, self-esteem and respect — taught through real Taekwondo.
ATA Karate for Kids is our core children's program, for ages 8 to 12. Students learn genuine Taekwondo — poomse (forms), weapons, conditioning and controlled sparring — inside a structure that keeps pushing on discipline, self-esteem and respect.
The colour belt system does something a gym membership cannot: it gives a child a visible, achievable next goal every eight weeks, and proof that effort turns into progress.
What you'll learn
-
Real self-defense
Practical technique that builds the confidence to avoid bullying and handle a physical threat.
-
Conflict resolution
The first lesson is how not to fight. Students are taught to de-escalate before anything else.
-
Goal setting
The colour belt ladder turns "try harder" into a specific, testable next step.
-
Social development
A room full of peers working toward the same thing — friendships form around effort, not cliques.
-
Fitness & conditioning
Demanding conditioning and sparring that makes an active lifestyle the default.
-
Self-control
Positive mental attitude, perseverance and self-control are drilled as deliberately as any kick.
Your first month
Nobody walks in knowing how to do this. Here is what the first four weeks actually look like, so you know what you are signing up for.
-
Week 1
Finding the floor
Class etiquette, stance and where they fit in. New students are paired with someone who has been here a while.
-
Week 2
Basics that repeat
Blocks, kicks and the first few movements of a form. Everything from here builds on these.
-
Week 3
Sparring, carefully
Controlled contact with full gear and close supervision. Most children arrive nervous about this and leave asking when it is on again.
-
Week 4
Working toward a stripe
They know what their next belt requires and what they need to do to get it. The goal stops being abstract.
Common questions
My child has never done martial arts. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Most students start with zero experience. The first two classes are free so you can see how they take to it before committing.
Will this make my child aggressive?
The opposite. Conflict resolution comes before technique — students are taught to walk away first, and that skill is tested along with everything else.
