Ages 4–7

ATA Tigers

Preschool Taekwondo that builds focus before it builds kicks.

The ATA Tiger curriculum was developed specifically for preschool-age children, ages 4 through 7. At this age the goal is not power — it is attention, self-control and the confidence that comes from finishing something you started.

Every class works on the qualities that make the rest of school and life easier: courtesy, respect and discipline. Along the way children sharpen their motor skills, lengthen their attention span, and get a lot of practice at the single hardest skill for a four-year-old — following directions the first time they are given.

What you'll learn

  • Focus & attention span

Short, high-energy drills that gradually stretch how long a child can stay on task.

  • Listening skills

Instructions are given once. Children learn to hear, process and act — a skill that shows up immediately at school.

  • Courtesy & respect

Bowing, "yes sir / yes ma'am", and waiting your turn are practised, not lectured about.

  • Coordination & balance

Hand-eye coordination and body awareness through age-appropriate kicking, blocking and agility work.

  • Real Taekwondo basics

Poomse (forms), basic weapons handling, conditioning and controlled sparring.

  • Confidence & self-esteem

Confidence is earned by mastering a skill in front of others — not by being told you are great.

The eight animal patches

Tigers collect a patch for each skill they demonstrate. Each one is a visible, reachable next goal — and a reason to keep showing up.

  1. Tiger Orange
  2. Cheetah Yellow
  3. Lion Camo
  4. Eagle Green
  5. Phoenix Purple
  6. Dragon Blue
  7. Cobra Brown
  8. Panther Red

Your first month

Nobody walks in knowing how to do this. Here is what the first four weeks actually look like, so you know what you are signing up for.

  1. Week 1

    Just getting comfortable

Your child learns where to stand, how to bow, and that it is fine not to know anything yet. Most of week one is about feeling safe in the room.

  2. Week 2

    First real technique

A basic block and a front kick. Short drills, lots of repetition, and their first taste of finishing something they found hard.

  3. Week 3

    Following directions

We start asking for the instruction to be followed the first time. This is the part parents usually notice at home before they notice it on the mat.

  4. Week 4

    First patch in sight

By now they know the routine and are working toward their first animal patch. Confidence at this stage comes from competence, not encouragement.

Common questions

Is 4 years old too young to start?

No — the Tigers curriculum is built for this age. Classes are short, fast-moving and structured around what a 4-to-7-year-old can actually hold their attention on.

Do we have to buy a uniform before starting?

No. Your first two classes are free and you can wear regular gym clothes. A uniform is included free when you enrol.

How often are belt tests?

Every 8 weeks. Testing fees are already included in your monthly tuition — there are no surprise charges.

What are the animal patches?

Tigers earn 8 collectible animal patches — Tiger, Cheetah, Lion, Eagle, Phoenix, Dragon, Cobra and Panther — each tied to a skill they have demonstrated.

What if my child is shy?

That is one of the most common reasons parents bring their child here. Instructors work with each student individually, and the class structure gives shy children small, repeatable wins.
